Re:Employment - 2008/07/14 02:24 Hello,
I was very impressed with your posting regarding your agency and the fact that you are willing to help nurses with license issues find jobs. My RN liceense was suspended for 3 years, after a near-fatal illness, resulting in an addiction to opiates. I have submitted my paperwork to the Pa BON for the reinstatement process-currently I am waiting for the BON to contact me with a date to appear before the BON. For the past 3 1/2 years, I have had to relay on my wits and trust in God in order to support my 3 children, mortgage and assorted medical bills, etc. My last position was a year long contract position through an agency, as a Drug Safety Associate for Merck. That position ended a couple of weeks ago, and I am once again on the "hamster wheel" of job searching. Any ideas would be very much appreciated, and I am open to any & all suggestions! I do not want to lose my home when I am so close to reinstatement!!
thanks so much!

Re:Employment - 2008/10/15 10:52 I have only posted once on this site. Not sure if this the correct place but, here goes. I am an LPN. I have been in recovery as of 08/25/07. I still can not find a job. Like many other stories i have read, once I tell them I am a recovering nurse it all goes down hill. I have applied with a few a&d treatment centers and they tell me I need to have two years clean. What is going through my mind is not tell them and just get a job. There is no restrictions on my license. Although the GA board of nursing says it it coming but, that has been almost a year ago. I guess I know this decision is not the right one. I just get so frustrated!!!!!!!!!!

Re:Employment - 2008/10/16 08:03 When are you telling them? I didn't tell them until after my second interview and right before I was offered the position. They needed to want ME for the job first. If you tell them immediately they stop seeing the nurse and only see the addict. I know it's frustrating. Do you know when and what restrictions you'll have? Hang in there, I promise it gets better.

Re:Employment - 2008/10/16 11:07 I was telling them up front, on my first interview. the restrictions are to be not being able to handle narcs for one to two years.I would go ahead and tell them this. I now have been to court on a possession of schedule 2 narc charge which i plead guilty under the first offenders. my probation officer told me to answer no to the question have i ever been convicted of a felony but, when they pull up my background they can see it. Is this correct? If anyone has advice on this i would appreciate it.
